The Clamdigger was a WW II era newsletter which was prepared by a dedicated group of local citizens to
keep Rowayton's service men and women abreast of events at home
and in contact with one another.

V-E Day in Clamtown

V-E Day in Clamtown was much the same as any other day, except that maybe the smiles were a little happier, and the grins were a little broader, and the buzz of talk coming from the Post Office at the time of the evening mail was a little louder and filled with all sorts of speculations. A joint church meeting was held at the Methodist Church, conducted by the ministers of the Baptist and Methodist, which was preceded by a parade of the band of the Children's Home. Most of us will now start studying maps of the Pacific theater having intimate knowledge of the ETO already. All of us will keep on looking to V-J Day, when we can actually start making plans for that celebration scheduled for when you boys get back.
